2006 Season - Genesius Guild
Aristophanes: "The Birds"
The plays of Aristophanes have been presented four times
each during the guild’s 50 years. The next cycle of these
farcical works begins with the fifth production of “The
Birds,” the Athenian playwright’s happiest creation. While
portions of the comedy will be updated, the plot will remain
the same: two war-weary Athenians decide to leave the
quarrelsome company of human beings to live with the birds,
only to find that the follies of civilization follow them into
Cloudcuckooland.
The comedy ends in a traditional Mack Sennett chase (ask your grandparents who he was), with characters running and leaping in a frantic, three minute routine that ends when everyone collapses in exhaustion.
